Lowry Bridge Will Light up for FAIR on June 1
Wednesday, May 20, 2020 2:45 PM

With senior all-night parties, yearbook signings, and in-person graduation ceremonies all canceled in order to halt the spread of the coronavirus, Hennepin County and Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) have teamed up to honor 2020 graduates by lighting the Lowry Bridge in the colors of the FAIR School on June 1st!

“Even though we can’t recognize them in the way we’d planned, the Class of 2020 will have a special place in history,” said Minneapolis Public Schools Superintendent Ed Graff. “We’re very grateful to Hennepin County for honoring the graduates and their accomplishments in this way.”

“I am grateful to Minneapolis Public Schools leadership and Hennepin County staff for making this happen,” said Hennepin County Commissioner Irene Fernando (District 2). “I am excited that Hennepin will be able to partner with MPS during this unparalleled time and create a meaningful demonstration of community support for our 2020 graduating seniors. We wish our seniors the best of luck in their next endeavors, and we thank them for who they are and for who they will become.”

To help make sure this experience is safe and fun for everyone, including for the schools with days after us, please follow these requests by the district and county if you plan to take photos of the bridge:

  • Follow all health guidelines and applicable government orders, including for group sizes and appropriate social distancing measures
  • Do not gather on the Lowry Bridge itself (this wouldn't make for good photos anyway)
  • Use one of the recommended viewing/photos spots including Marshall Terrace Park, Edgewater Park, Gluek Park, 42nd Avenue North Bridge, or Broadway St. Northeast Bridge

Congratulations to our seniors, and thanks to the County for recognizing their hard work!
