Jersey Jones, a visual artist and senior at the FAIR School, has earned a big statewide honor for her artwork.

The Art Educators of Minnesota (AEM) just announced their winners for the Youth Art Month competition. Jersey received third place in the high school category for her piece, “The Friendly Giant.”

Jersey’s art will now be on display at the Minnesota State Capitol as part of the Youth Art Month Student Exhibition.

“Having my art in the Youth Art Month Student Exhibition is a great opportunity to showcase my art,” Jersey said. “Thanks to Ms. Conwell and Mr. Nelson! I am extremely grateful to have won third place.”

This accomplishment is a big testament to Jersey’s talent. Each year AEM members from around the state can submit student works of art to the central organization. Jersey’s art was submitted by FAIR teacher Amy Conwell.

Members of the public are invited to view the exhibition, including Jersey’s piece, at the State Capitol. The 2020 art show runs from Monday, February 17th through February 29th. The building is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm each day. On Saturdays, it’s open 10:00am-3:00pm, and on Sundays, it’s open 1:00pm-4:00pm.

This year’s art show is taking place earlier, rather than in March, to accommodate an art educators’ conference taking place in the Twin Cities.
