We love that our FAIR students are always making big moves! One of the latest: Sophomore Lareina Davis won an awesome grant to support her passion for dance.

With the help of Lisa Dornacker, FAIR’s college and career counselor, Lareina applied for and received a $500 Let Me Play grant from the Ann Bancroft Foundation, a St. Paul-based nonprofit that exists to inspire and encourage young women to go after their dreams.

Lareina discovered her passion for dance several years ago, and last year started taking dance classes at a local studio, where she does jazz, ballet, and hip hop dance. The grant money will go toward her studio tuition and costumes for dance recitals.

How did she feel when she learned she got the grant? “It was like a weight was lifted off of me,” Lareina says. “I was ecstatic.”

“It lets me know that I’m for sure going to be able to do this for the rest of the year and hopefully years to come,” she says. Her next dance recital is in May at the Art of Dance Studio in Brooklyn Park.

This grant program is a great opportunity for more young women in the future. Folks who are interested in applying for future money from the Ann Bancroft Foundation can check their grant webpage (in February 2020) or talk to Ms. Lisa in the College and Career Center!
