This is a difficult time for students, families, staff, and our community. Our hearts go out to you, and we're here to support you in any way we can. On this page, we've collected links to resources that may be helpful.

Mental health

  • Mental health hotline: (612) 767-4158. Minneapolis Public Schools has partnered with Watercourse Counseling Center to create a telephone support line for our school community. This line is available for both students and families. The service is available in Spanish, Somali and English. If the counselor who receives a call is not able to support the caller in their preferred language, they will ask for a phone number and forward it on to an appropriate service provider.

Physical health

  • COVID-19 testing for areas affected by the Minneapolis uprising. Testing is free; no insurance needed. Recommended for people who have participated in or were nearby any large gatherings including but not limited to protests, civil unrest events, community clean up and recovery efforts, vigils, neighborhood defense meetings.
  • COVID-19 testing for other parts of the state. The state government has a map to help you find a testing location near you.
    • One example: NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center is now offering drive-up COVID-19 testing by appointment only. Schedule at 612-543-2500.
  • Child & Teen Checkups Program from Hennepin County. Families are encouraged to contact their clinic if their child is due for a health check. The C&TC program can help families make these calls or to find a clinic where they will be comfortable. Clinics are quickly adapting to provide safe places for well child checks. Call 612-348-5131 for their main line. 

Economic health

  • Renters' assistance.
    • Help paying your rent. If you’re struggling to pay rent due to COVID-19 and live in Hennepin County, you might qualify for emergency rental assistance. Learn more and apply on the County website.
    • Free legal help for renters. HOME Line’s tenant hotline offers confidential legal advice to help folks solve problems with rental housing.     • FAQ on renters' rights during this situation. This web page from Legal Services State Support answers common questions about eviction, utilities, and other issues for tenants during COVID-19.
  • Earned sick and safe time. Workers in Minneapolis and St. Paul have the right to take off paid sick time that they have accrued. See the City of Minneapolis website and the City of St. Paul website for more information. 

Food and nutrition

  • State money for meals. Minnesota is now offering funds for families of children ages 5 to 18 who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals. The new program, called Pandemic EBT (P-EBT), will provide up to $325 per child that families can use to purchase nutritious food for their household. Approximately 350,000 Minnesota children could benefit.
  • Second Harvest Heartland. Visit their website for information on free meals.  

Other resources

  • Hennepin County Response Line. Call 612-348-0000 for access to many different services in Hennpin county. The response line is open Monday through Saturday, 8am-8pm each day, in 32 different languages. 
  • Urban Ventures has compiled a list of great resources on rent, food, jobs, health insurance, mutual aid, legal help, and other issues. 
  • Family Housing Fund lists a number of resources on unemployment, financial assistance, food, utilities, legal help, renters' help, and homeowners' help. 

Distance learning

  • Distance learning informationOur central distance learning page has all info about virtual classes at FAIR.
    • WHS Tech Tricks. This YouTube channel offers helpful tutorials to help students and families use Google Classroom.
