Super Bowl Preparations at FAIR
Thursday, January 25, 2018 2:15 PM

Dear FAIR School Families,

You should have recently received information recently with important Super Bowl information (http://www.mpls.k12.mn.us/super_bowl_lii.html) via the School Messenger system.  As a school in the downtown area, we want to provide some additional information for our families.

At The FAIR School, we are keeping our focus on learning and working to ensure student safety while the Super Bowl is in town. We invite you to be partners with us in this effort. At this link (http://www.mpls.k12.mn.us/safety)  are some helpful tips to use as resources when talking with your student and traveling around town during this time. If you see something suspicious, say something. Together, we can make sure this exciting time remains safe for all.

Due to our school’s proximity to Super Bowl events, we expect to see a greater impact on transportation to and from school from January 29 through February 5. Please plan for significant delays—especially in the afternoons and on Monday, Feb. 5—and possible road closure  (http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/visitors/SuperBowl/WCMSP-195148) near our building. This is true whether your student rides the bus, Metro bus, or you drive them to or from school.   Traffic will be heavy in the downtown area, so please plan ahead for drop off and pick up.  We will do our best to let you know about delays and anticipated arrival times, but if your student rides the bus and is more than 15 minutes late getting home, please call MPS transportation to check on the bus status at 612-668-2300.

For our High School students who ride Metro bus to and from school, we encourage families to have conversations about the large number of out of town guests to our city and individuals who may look at the large convergence of people as an opportunity take advantage of.  Students should keep vigilant and focused walking to and from buses, avoid strangers who engage them in conversation and notify FAIR School personnel immediately with any concerns.

We take the safety of our students and staff very seriously, and I have worked with the district to ensure we are prepared for the upcoming Super Bowl week.We have completed additional security measures this winter to increase student safety.  Video buzzer systems have been installed on our front and back alley doors, locks have been re-keyed and video surveillance has been updated.

We would also like to remind families our standard attendance policy applies during this time. In order to be counted as an excused absence, you must provide notification to the school either in writing or by calling the attendance line at 612.668.1060, ext. #1.

Please reach out with any questions or concerns you have.

In Partnership,

Mary Pat Cumming, Principal
