Shaunassey Johnson
Rose Rees Peace Award

Shaunassey Johnson, FAIR School senior, has been selected as one of 25 seniors across the metro to receive the Rose Rees Peace Award.  The prestigious award is given to seniors who demonstrate a commitment to service, advocacy, community and peace.  Sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women, an awards ceremony on April 25, 2018 will celebrate the 25 student winners.

Shaunassey is been a leader in and out of the classroom. She marched with students after the wake of Jamar Clark’s shooting, and held vigil at the 4th precinct police station. She brought #BlackLivesMatter into FAIR school, and helped organize a solidarity movement to wear black on Fridays. In 10th grade, she participated in a Social Justice Research Tour, and lead a successful student campaign that called for administration accountability, advocating for an equitable education for herself and her peers. Mediating between students and the associate superintendent, she sat on the hiring committee for a national administrative search. As a junior, Shaunassey organized a small group of friends to create FAIR School’s Student Council, giving students a seat at the table for the first time. Now, as the student body Vice President, her positivity and warmth makes our school a better place for everyone. We are happy to serve next to a student who chooses to care instead of complain—who puts her goals to action.

We are proud of Shaunassey is part of FAIRNATION!
