Minneapolis Public Schools Nutrition Services adheres to specific USDA guidelines in providing special diet accommodations for students. Please review the following information if your child requires special diet considerations:

GLUTEN FREE

Items on the Gluten Free Menu do not contain any ingredients that contain a gluten-containing grain. Specialty, prepackaged items follow the FDA’s requirements for a gluten-free food. All food preparation surfaces, cooking surfaces and cooking utensils have been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized to ensure gluten-free preparation.

LACTOSE INTOLERANCE

Minneapolis Public Schools Nutrition Services will provide lactose-reduced milk, such as Lactaid, for children with lactose intolerance. A parent or guardian must make this request in writing by completing and signing the Request for Lactose Reduced Milk form and returning it to the school’s food service manager.

FOOD ALLERGIES or OTHER DIETARY RESTRICTIONS

Minneapolis Public Schools Nutrition Services will provide special dietary requests for students with food allergies and/or other dietary restrictions. In accordance with federal USDA regulations, the Special Diet Statement form must be completed and signed by the parent/guardian as well as the child’s licensed physician before any accommodations are made.

Minneapolis Public Schools is Peanut & Tree Nut aware meaning there are NO Peanuts & Tree Nuts purchased for school meals nor on the menu items. Thus it is not required to fill out a special dietary statement for a student with a peanut and/or tree nut allergy. For all other dietary restrictions a complete special diet statement is required prior to any accommodations. Please return completed forms to the school’s food service manager (coordinator).
