After School Matters is an optional extension to the elementary school day. Courses are selected and designed to provide meaningful opportunities for student growth. Students explore areas of interest, gain valuable experience, and enrich regular school day learning.
Students and staff participating in ASM are required to follow the same expectations of the regular school day. Students are expected to be safe, responsible, respectful, and engaged. Any student unable to follow these expectations and those outlined in the 2016-17 Student Handbook may be removed from the program.
In the event that ASM is canceled due to inclement weather or the threat of inclement weather, staff will work with students to inform families. The decision to cancel programing will occur as early as possible, so families have time to make arrangements for their students to get home safely when the regular school day ends. If there is an emergency or concern after 3:15 pm, call the main line of the school.
HEALTH SERVICES ARE NOT AVAILABLE DURING AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMING.
The health office at FAIR School Downtown closes with the end of the school day at 3:10pm. After School Matters does not have access to the health services office. Medication is not accessible from the school nurse’s office. For more information click here.

In situations where class registrations exceed class capacity, classes will be filled by random lottery. Students who are not selected in the lottery will be enrolled in an available class the same day when possible. Class confirmation and transportation info will be sent home with your student. Schedules are subject to change, and classes may be canceled due to low enrollment.
Healthy snacks are provided daily for FAIR ASM. Examples of after-school snacks: graham crackers, cheese and crackers, apple sauce, raisins and more. All are served with a beverage such as juice and/or milk.
Downtown Campus Transportation for ASM
Busing is provided for students enrolled in the ASM program. Buses leave the Downtown campus at 5 pm. Students are expected to behave in a safe, respectful and responsible way on the bus. Failure to meet these expectations could result in suspending or revoking bus privileges. For changes in transportation or issues that may arise, please contact the ASM transportation coordinator at 612.363.7589. Parent/Guardian contact information will be shared with transportation company for students enrolled in ASM.
ASM Busing for Minneapolis Students
Students in K-3 living in Minneapolis will be bused directly to their home address. Parents/guardians need to be home in order to receive their child. Students in 9-12 have the option of choosing a K-3 stop, or riding to a satellite stop.
ASM Busing for Students from All Other Member Districts
Students living in a suburban district will be bused to a satellite stop. View the satellite stop options on the online registration form and choose the appropriate bus and satellite drop site. Parents/Guardians must pick their children up from the listed drop site. Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow for fluctuations in drive times and prepare for traffic and weather related issues. If you are more than 5 minutes late for pick up at a satellite stop more that twice during a session, your child may no longer be allowed to ride the ASM buses.
Students can also be picked up at FAIR School Downtown. Parent/Guardian pickup is from 5:05-5:15 pm, after the ASM buses have cleared The FAIR School loading zone in the back alley. Adults picking up students must have a photo ID and be listed on the student’s emergency contact record. Parents picking up students must enter the school through the main entrance. This procedure is put in place to ensure the safety of all students. You must list the days you plan to pick up your child on the registration form. If you are more than 15 minutes late for pick up at FAIR more that twice during a session, your child will not be permitted to attend ASM.
